CHHA 1610 AM Radio Voces Latinas, a community based Radio Station, is pleased to announce that it was awarded for the implementation of  a fund called “Empowerment ans Community Development: The continued expansion os CHHA’s News Department & Local News Production Project”.

With the funds received, the staton will bring in newly graduated professionals and innovative minds to assist with the progression os the station’s News Department. With this in mind, CHHA 1610 AM Radio Voces Latinas wants to produce news with a team of professsional correspondent, journalists, and editors to go sites of interest ( news events as they are happening), interview people on site, collect information, research, verify information collected, edit and the air the news in radio programs.

Furthermore, the station wants to continue to unify the Latin American community and keep them informed about issues around Toronto and beyond GTA, with the added benefit and pride of knowing the news is produced by a professional news team and aired in Spanish on CHHA 1610 AM, Radio Voces Latinas.

Linda McGlade, Director of Board  San Lorenzo Latin American Community Centre, said about the funding “This grant is wonderful testament to CHHA to continue our local news segment to bring Canada to our community”

The CRFC is a National not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to build and improve the campus and community radio sector for all Canadians. Through the Radiometres program, which is currently the cornerstone of their funding, the CRFC just aanounced that they will invest close the 1.5 millions dolars in our sector in order to enrich local programming as well as to promote volunteerism and community participation.

Within five years, the rediometers program enable the CRFC to invest 10.5 millions dollars in the campus and community radio sector. It is an impressive number of 123 stations that have intiated more than 300 project. “funded incitiatives, such as the project proposed by CHHA 1610 AM, are necessary in order to make community radio a true local media, a radio that interact with people in their neighbourhood”, says the president of CRFC, Roger Oulette.
